Korean Food Part 2

I found this new Korean place near my home…around Chun Tin Road.

It is called “Kim’s Family Resturant”. I first went there with 2 of my colleagues and we enjoyed the food there so much, I went back 3 days later with my family. We were all impressed by the quick service and tasty food. Most of all, we were all in awe of the number of side dishes they gave – 10! And one of them was a whole fish!!

Daniel declared that the food here taste better than sushi ( which was his favourite food until then!)

Check this out!

Korean Food – Part 1

As you all probably know by now, I enjoy Korean food.. :) Not only me, but my family as well, so I make a point to look for cheap & good Korean dinning places, and also to learn to make some Korean dishes.

Here is just an update of my Korean cooking class held at Han Seung Restaurant at Square 2.
The dishes were fairly simple to make, but I only managed to make the Jap Chae at home. The kids loved it, and Eve can eat a whole lot on its own. It is very much like our fried been Hoon except the noodles used are different. I make a less complicated version that what I was taught…basically cos I don’t have so many variety of ingredients at home! Do experiment with it by changing the veg or the marinate. :)

The ingredients & cooking method is:

(1) Slice mushrooms, carrots, capsicum ( any colour), onions – into strips. Try to make them about the same length. Pan-fry all and keep aside.

(2) Spinach ( par boiled with salt & oil. Once it is boiled, rinse in cold water. Squeeze out the water and marinate with soya sauce and sesame oil).

(3) Marinate beef strips with soya sauce, sesame sauce & pepper, then pan fry.

(4) Boil noodles in water which has soya sauce added ( about 4-6 table spoons). Drain when cook and set aside.

(5) Add chop garlic to oil, add in vegetables, noodles, beef and mix well. Add soya if desired.

Malaccan Food

I know this is a really back dated blog entry, as I have already been back from Malacca for almost a month now! I realised that I had these photos of the food I ate there, and it would be a real waste not to show them…

1. Chicken Rice Balls
Can you spot the rice? At first when it came, we thought it was fried fish balls! Ha…I almost said “ we didn’t order this” then I realised that it was rice! oh well…

It was “tourist” food. The rice was well very packed, so it lost the “fluffy” feel of the regular rice. The shop we went to was along Jonkar Street named “Farmosa Chicken Rice”. CIMG1164

We found out later that it was not the “original” store. The one that you want to go to for the authentic, hand-made chicken rice ball is at the end of Jonkar street, at the junction opposite OCBC Bank and San Shu Kong. …but queuing under the hot sun is NOT my idea of fun…but to these people(below), it seems to be worth it.

2. Peranakan Food – Donald & Lily’s
How can we visit Malacca without eating Peranakan food? My cousin brought us to this house opposite the Jonkar Street Car park. We literally ate in their back yard!! It was a small outfit, and food often ran out if you did not go early. We barely got the last order for the Assam Stingray. Here is where they cook and below the sign board was their actual back door!

Actually, we ate a lot of Chendol!! Alot….we had at least one bowl a day! Daniel got so addicted to it, we brought gula melaka home and try and make it…key word here is TRY, cos as of now….I still have not made it! :P

There are actually a lot more food in Malacca like Satay Julut, pineapple tarts, Kueh etc…but I was too busy eating to take pictures…:) If you are keen to find out more about Malaccan food, there are a few blogs online that will show you where to go :)
